Free Landscape Design Consults at Garden Show
The Association of Professional Landscape Designers, Washington Chapter (APLD-WA), is organizing FREE landscape design consultations at the 2012 Northwest Flower & Garden Show. This was such a popular service at the 2010 garden show that they are bringing it back next month.
Garden Show attendees have the opportunity to meet with landscape designers who are APLD members or our show garden creators for free, 20-minute consultations. Design consults must be scheduled in advance on the garden show website. (Tickets are required to enter the show.)
Appointments may also be scheduled at the garden show if any are available. But given the popularity of these consults at the 2010 show, it is recommended that the appointment be scheduled well in advance.
WHAT TO BRING
Barbara Lycett, APLD, who is organizing this service along with Susie Thompson, says she and her fellow APLD designers were very impressed at how well prepared everyone was when they came for their consultations in 2010. “Attendees realized they only had 20 minutes of precious time with a designer, so they brought photos, notes, a list of questions, and in some cases, landscape plans. They got a lot more out of their session by being so prepared,” noted Barbara.
“The majority of our APLD members are also Certified Horticulturists, so they can help attendees with specific plant questions as well as design questions,” Barbara explained. “Quite often a person might not need major design work or hardscape changes, but they need an arborist or the removal of overgrown plants. Our designers can help people determine what kind of work, and what kind of expert help, they might need.”
Consulting with a landscape designer is an excellent way to get the most out of your property, and enhancing the landscape adds value to your home. Questions such as space planning, traffic flow, screening unsightly views, maximizing use of the property, incorporating pets or play structures are all issues that designers are trained to tackle.
So sign up today, and bring some “before” photos and your garden wish list to your design consult. With some helpful professional advice from APLD members, you’ll be on your way to making those “before” photos turn into an “after” garden of your dreams.
APLD will pair an attendee with its designers who are volunteering for this free service. There will be two consults per shift, on the hour and half hour. The consults are right on the garden floor, nestled into one of the show gardens.
